With nearly 30 years of experience, Maria Ortega is more than a business accountant—she’s a trusted partner to Arizona’s small and medium-sized business owners. As the founder of Independent Accounting Services, LLC, she leads with a mission rooted in personal experience and professional integrity.
Born and raised in San Luis Río Colorado, Mexico, Maria's passion for accounting began in her father’s bakery, where she witnessed how financial disorganization can hold hardworking entrepreneurs back. That early experience shaped her commitment: to help others achieve financial clarity, confidence, and peace of mind.
Maria specializes in small business accounting, bookkeeping, and financial reporting across various industries, including commercial cleaning, farming, hospitality, construction, and public accounting. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC), where she earned the title of Public Accountant.
In the U.S., she is an IRS-authorized Electronic Return Originator (ERO), a PTIN holder, and a participant in the Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP). With over 15 years of experience in individual tax preparation, she helps individuals, families, and sole proprietors reduce tax stress and stay compliant, delivering clarity every step of the way.
